SPRING IS HERE in Lancaster County!

A little damp but it has arrived!

I love this season! Every 2 weeks something new is blooming. All the perennials you planted 2 years ago are in full bloom. My lilacs, both purple and pink, are absolutely lovely. The red azaleas are perfection. Did you know that white azaleas are the last to bloom? My climbing wisteria is to die for – see picture – this is the best year ever.

Don’t forget the peonies! They are just starting to bud. I love to bring them indoors; the aroma is intoxicating. And once the lilacs are spent the weigilas are at their finest. Don’t forget the Rose of Sharon and my clematis has so many blooms I can not count them all!! The “rule” is after Mother’s Day you can plant the annuals. We have so many flower beds here at the Boxwood Inn I can go crazy. But there is always the question this early in the season. Do I invest in the many colored pansies with their cute little faces? – They don’t like the heat. Or do I forgo the forecast for a cooler spring/summer and delve right into the geraniums; red, coral, white or pink? The inpatients; red, coral, white, or pink???? The marigolds, alyssum, and all the verbena.
Can you tell this is my favorite season? My one job for the next 3 weeks is to fill my flower beds. There are so many nurseries around Lancaster County you really should come here and stock up for your own flower beds. Any of us innkeepers can lead you off the main routes to the “local” nurseries. We know where all the good deals are. Come and stay with us. It’s Spring – everything is NEW again.
