Christmas in Lancaster, PA

Christmas is in the air and the cold days have everyone in Lancaster PA hoping for a white Christmas. The holiday season is a wonderful time to take that romantic weekend getaway or family vacation that you’ve been meaning to take all year. Just imagine sitting in front of a warm fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa and laughing with the family. Or looking out the window and seeing the rolling hills of Lancaster Amish Country with a fresh coat of snow. You’ll also get personal dinner recommendations and have your concert tickets reserved for you. But the best part of these vacations is sleeping in and having a gourmet breakfast prepared for you! Where can you find this hospitality and comforts of home, you may ask? At 41 unique bed and breakfasts of Lancaster Pennsylvania you can be pampered and get in the Christmas spirit with all the local events and shows.
Heading into the Christmas season there are plenty of shows and concerts to get you in the Christmas spirit! Of all the shows I’ve seen in Lancaster, I’ve been amazed at the talent and creativity that goes into each performance. The American Music Theatre presents their original Christmas show through December 30. It will be another exciting show of singers, dancers, and even a children’s choral and dance group.
Sight and Sound’s Millennium Theatre is showing the Miracle of Christmas. This show recounts the story of the kings, angels, and a faithful couple with brand-new sensory experiences. At the Living Waters Theatre, Voices of Christmas, celebrates the joyful season with carols, dances, animals, costumes, music, and stories.
For more traditional organ singalongs and choral ensembles, Longwood Gardens features daily performances throughout the Christmas season. While you’re there, make sure to visit the beautiful gardens, fountains, and Christmas trees!
As you can see there are plenty of shows to see in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. You just might have to plan more than one visit to see all of the performances! Contact an Authentic innkeeper of one of the bed breakfast inns to book your stay and inquire about reserving tickets for one or more of these shows. Let them take care of the details so you can enjoy your winter vacation!

Lancaster's Unique Holiday Shopping

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, I think it’s reasonable to start Christmas shopping. My goal each year is to find the perfect gift that someone actually needs, or something fun that fits their personality. The best way to fulfill my goal is to visit holiday bazaars, Christmas villages, and Christkindlesmarkt’s that sell the treasures that you can’t find in a department store! Lancaster Amish Country has some great options for finding that perfect gift. And what better way to shop than to also be on vacation and staying in a Lancaster Pennsylvania bed and breakfast? With 41inns in the Authentic bed and breakfast association of Lancaster County, you’ll be sure to find an inn that fits your needs and leaves you feeling relaxed for all the unique shopping experiences.

There are two Christkindlesmarkts in Lancaster County this year: in Adamstown at Stoudt’s and at the Brendle Museum in Schaefferstown. Stoudt’s celebrates the five Sundays before Christmas from 7:30-2 pm. Known as the Antique Capital, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of antique crafts and decorations. Be sure to visit the Wonderful Good Market for seasonal treats and artisan cheese to help make your holidays special. In addition to the shopping, there is festive music and food to get your family in the Christmas spirit. If you happen to be visiting on December 5, you just might run into St. Nicholas! On Sunday December 11, from 9-3 pm, the Brendle Museum will have handmade crafts that represent the 1800s. The most exciting part of this Christkindlmarkt is the Tavern Lunch  from 10-2 pm. Be sure to make your reservations for this authentic colonial-style lunch and entertaining hosts.

Zion Lutheran Church will host a Holiday Bazaar on December 3rd and 4th. In Leola, Pa this bazaar will feature quality crafts, pottery, home decor, kids’ corner, baked goods, food, and cookie decorating!

My favorite place to shop during the Christmas season is Kitchen Kettle Village. In addition to the quaint shops and delicious food, they celebrate Holly Days and Old Fashioned Christmas Friday Nights. Be sure to visit for caroling, cookies, s’mores, and roaming musicians. You won’t find a more fun and less stressful way to complete your holiday shopping!

Be sure to plan your visit today to Lancaster Pa and stay at a unique bed and breakfast. You’ll delight in the treasures and hospitality you’ll find at an Authentic B&B. I challenge you to visit in hopes of finding some unique gifts for friends and family.
